qtpod is a Qt application which can control your
Line6 POD 2.0 and POD Pro via MIDI. Currently, the
ALSA MIDI sequencer API is supported.

jacksampler is a sampler which supports MIDI input using JACK, and outputs the audio data using JACK. It is configured using a simple text file which describes which audio file corresponds to which MIDI note.

LASH is a session management system for JACK audio and ALSA MIDI applications on Linux. It consists of a daemon, a client library, a server control tool, and a number of example applications. Its aim is to allow users to have many different audio programs running at once, to save their setup, close them down and then reload the setup at some other time. It doesn't deal with any kind of audio data itself; it just runs programs, deals with saving/ loading data, and connects different kinds of virtual audio ports together.

GKaraoke is a Karaoke simulator for GNOME that
uses Timidity to play the MIDI events (no MIDI
hardware needed in the soundboard).

Q-Midi is a MIDI interface module which allows you to write MIDI
applications in the Q programming language. It runs on top of Grame's
MidiShare package. Most basic MidiShare functionality is available,
including timing functions for realtime programming and MIDI file
access. A sample MIDI player application is included (which requires
Tcl/Tk).

iabc is a graphical application for editing music. It uses the ABC music notation language to produce high-quality graphical notation or MIDI output. The music notation and the ABC notation can be updated in real-time, making the construction of tunes using the ABC language hassle-free (or at least hassle-resistant).

Mutabor is a program that allows you to perform and compose microtonal music using a normal MIDI keybord and normal MIDI equipment. Its powerful description language is intended to allow permanent retunings and complex tuning logic. One application is just tuning. Mutabor has been used for this purpose to make available all pitches that can be reached by stacking perfect thirds and perfect fifths. The stable version 3.0x is available in German only and runs under Windows and Wine. The unstable branch can be accessed via CVS (but build bugs should be expected) or downloaded from the Berlios developer site.

The Audio* Music Synthesis Project is music
creation software. Currently it features Mojo
Synth which is a polyphonic analog modelling synth
that has a 64 step sequencer and can also be
played from a MIDI keyboard. It attempts to
emulate classic analog sounds from Roland M-100,
Korg MS-20, and Mini Moog synthesizers.

MIDI Controller is a small program that lets you set MIDI
controller values using sliders and buttons in a GTK+
window. The GUI is an XML-based Glade file which can be
replaced without rebuilding the program, so you can build
your own controller GUIs in Glade, with any number of
control widgets in any layout you want.

Midipoke is a MIDI controller for Synaptics touchpads on laptops. The X, Y, and Z axes can be mapped to MIDI CC messages or pitch bends.

multimidicast sends and receives MIDI from ALSA
sequencers over the network. It uses UDP multicast
datagrams, and is thus subscriptionless and
plug'n'play. It is designed to interoperate with
the Windows software ipMIDI.

Fripp is a music composition environment that uses
a spreadsheet metaphor for entering music and
manipulating it with built-in and user-created
functions. It supports MIDI playback and
recording, and displays music in common notation.
Scores can be exported to Mup format for high
quality printing. The core program is written in
Python, and the user interface is implemented
using the wxPython toolkit.

b-tektracker is an advanced real-time MIDI step
sequencer with a 'tracker' interface. It is a fork
of tektracker by Billy Biggs.

Rumor is a realtime monophonic (with chords) MIDI keyboard to Lilypond converter. It receives MIDI events, quantizes them according to its metronome on the fly, and outputs intelligently handwritten-like corresponding Lilypond notation. Tempo, meter, key and other parameters can be set via commandline options. Rumor can use ALSA/OSS or emulate MIDI input with computer keyboard. It is scriptable with Guile. It has been tested on several major J. S. Bach organ pieces (see links to Mutopia in the documentation).
