When attempting to access a Mercurial repository, the following message is displayed:

remote: logger: socket /dev/log: Connection refused

The Mercurial command then *appears* to operate as it should, but actually does not. For example, "hg push" produces messages indicating that files are being uploaded, but checking the repository online shows that they are not there.
