Hi,
with 'Region' and 'Fix the region' checked in AucTeX Command Menu,
I select and compile this LaTeX code (with a missing }):

\begin{picture}(400,360)

\end{picture}
\end{figure}
C-c ` does not display LaTeX error messages but instead two empty
windows that look like this :

[Mini buffer line]Search failed: "^l."

This is a new bug : I do not see it with Nov 2006 release, I see it
with late Feb. 2007 release.
